Timothy WheadonAs Chief Executive of Bracknell Forest Council I want to ensure we are supporting local residents and businesses during the recession. The council takes the recession seriously and has recently issued a new council objective to limit the impact of the recession whilst sustaining economic prosperity.

Economic and Skills Development Partnership

As part of the council’s sixth overarching priority to 'sustain economic prosperity’, the Economic and Skills Development Partnership was established. This group brings together a broad set of agencies and professionals who are all working towards sustaining the prosperity of the borough and its residents.

As part of the groups directive, a set of actions were produced this aimed at limiting the impact of the recession on the borough’s residents and businesses.

Further ongoing work has produced a targeted set of priority actions which focus on the support offered to individuals, families and businesses in the borough that may be experiencing economic problems caused by the recession. The Economic and Skills Development Partnership provides a coordinating and monitoring function and will receive quarterly progress reports. Responsibility for delivering the action plan will predominantly lie with the organisations making up the Economic and Skills Development Partnership. The challenge is to focus on key actions and subsequently seven priority actions have been identified which can be found on the download section on the right.

During these difficult times, the council is keen to encourage the widest possible opportunities for its residents and to benefit our businesses. Together with our Bracknell Forest Partnership partners, we have endorsed the Community Engagement Strategy for the borough.

This strategy promotes employment opportunities for under-represented groups and encourages volunteering as a benefit for businesses and residents. The strategy also encourages workforce planning as a way to develop thriving businesses.
