Benefits

The council is flexible in helping people to pay their council tax and will allow payment by 12 monthly instalments, if requested, instead of 10. Arrears will also be spread out over the remaining months of the financial year.

If people are having financial problems they should get in touch with their local Citizens Advice Bureau who will be able to offer advice on debt management.

You can claim benefit if you are in receipt of Income Support, Job Seekers Allowance, any other state benefit, or if you are working full or part time, self-employed, or retired. However, the amount of housing and/or council tax benefit you are awarded will depend on many factors.
