Traffic and Transport

There are a variety of ways Bracknell Forest Council can help cut the cost of travel and transport

Travelshare database

The travelshare database helps people making similar journeys find someone to share with. One of the main benefits of this internet-based scheme is reducing travel costs, as members generally share petrol and parking costs.

The scheme can be accessed from home or from work at www.bracknellforesttravelshare.co.uk and is open to both residents and people who work in the borough. After you have registered your details and the journey you wish to share, the system will tell you if anyone else is going in the same direction. Contact is made through a secure email connection via the database.

Bus and rail discounts

PlusBus is a combined bus and rail ticket with a discount on the bus part of the journey.

It allows unlimited local bus travel around town at the start, the end, or on both ends of a train journey. This could be especially appealing to commuters who drive to the railway station and pay for parking.

PlusBus tickets can only be bought from rail operators, so if you are using the bus at the start of your journey, you will need to purchase your ticket in advance. PlusBus tickets are also available on season tickets.

For more information and a map showing the area you can use a Bracknell PlusBus ticket see the Buses page.

A national concessionary bus pass is available to people aged 60 and over, and qualifying disabled people, which gives free travel across England from 9.30am-11pm on weekdays and all day at weekends and bank holidays.

A senior citizens railcard is also available to people aged 60 or over. The railcard, which currently costs £24, entitles you to a third off the cost of rail travel during off-peak periods Monday to Friday, and at any time at the weekmends. There is also a disabled persons railcard for qualifying disabled people.

Residents who wish to opt out of the statutory bus pass scheme, and are aged 65 or over, can purchase a railcard via the council at a reduced rate.

For more details visit the Concessionary Bus Fares Scheme page.
