Business rates - annual notification

The council notifies the occupiers of non-domestic properties of their annual business rate bill before 1 April each year.

The annual business rate bill is calculated by multiplying the rateable value of the property by the appropriate multiplier, which is set annually by the government.

There are two multipliers: the standard non-domestic rating and the small business rate multiplier.

The multipliers for 2016/17 are:

  • standard non domestic rating multiplier: 0.497
  • small business rate multiplier: 0.484

Check your rateable value

Each non-domestic property has a rateable value which is set by the Valuation Office Agency. You can check your rateable value and compare it with others on the Valuation Office Agency website.
