Children, Young People and Learning

The Children, Young People and Learning (CYPL) department provides a range of support and services for children, young people and their families to help them achieve good outcomes in life.

Director

The Director of CYPL is Nikki Edwards. She reports directly to the Chief Executive and has responsibility for the delivery of a wide range of statutory functions including education and children’s social care.

The department is organised into three branches, each led by a Chief Officer. A summary of the services which each branch provides are detailed below:

Children's social care

Children’s social care is responsible for assessing the help and support needed for children and their families with specialist needs, including Child Protection. This branch is responsible for:

Members of this branch provide support to schools as well as specialist training to raise standards and improve educational outcomes for children and young people living in the borough. This branch is responsible for:

  • Ethnic Minority and Traveller Achievement Service

Strategy, Resources and Early Help

Strategy, Resources and Early Help has a broad remit which includes early help, prevention and strategic services. This includes a range of direct support to all of the borough schools and across the department. This branch is responsible for:
