Community learning volunteers
The Community Learning Team provides courses and learning opportunities for adults in Bracknell Forest. We have a range of volunteering opportunities and this can be as a regular arrangement or as a one-off project or time period. Some of these are listed below, but please approach us if you have a volunteering request which isn’t mentioned.
Please note that as a volunteer, you will receive no financial reward.
We require volunteers to support the tutors and help learners in their English, maths and introduction to computers classes. You will need to be competent in the subject area and have knowledge and experience, or a particular interest in working with learners with additional needs.
Job search skills sessions (Bracknell on Thursdays)
We require volunteers who can help those unfamiliar with IT with their online job hunting. The JobClub leader is present.
English Language café (Bracknell on Mondays)
We require people willing to chat with those for whom English is not their first language, so that they can practise their conversational skills. Each volunteer chats with a small group of learners about the theme of the week. Two tutors are present
Projects for those seeking work experience
We have a series of projects with which you could be involved, depending on the nature of your qualifications and career plans. This can benefit you by enhancing your range of skills, giving you experience of work which you can put on your CV and discuss at job interviews. You may also benefit from us providing employment references for you.
Some possible projects include:
- learner voice: encouraging, capturing and acting upon the views of learners, potential learners and referral agencies, conducting specific surveys
- marketing and media: designing promotional campaigns, considering new channels, making the most of social media, trying to reach specific target markets, competitor analyses
- digital inclusion: Identifying new courses for learners who would like to improve their IT skills, supporting learners in the classrooms, being an “IT buddy” when they are not in the classroom. Developing our e-learning provision
