Bridge Management
The Borough is responsible for the maintenance of 191 highway structures on the road network and public rights of way. To meet the responsibilities for this asset the Borough has put in place a programme of bridge inspection, maintenance, refurbishment and strengthening works. Priority is given to Principal Road bridges, however, emergency and safety works are carried out where necessary.
Special measures such as weight or width restrictions are implemented for sub-standard bridges while alternative arrangements are evaluated through the processes of risk management and value engineering. Permanent restrictions are only used where such arrangements do not conflict with the Borough's strategy and Local Transport Plan.
