We run a number of events and workshops to help ensure that you are safe on the road.
Road Safety Week 2009
Monday 23 November to Wednesday 25 November
Safe Drive Stay Alive is produced by a road safety partnership including Thames Valley Police, local councils, Thames Valley's emergency services and the Thames Valley Safer Roads Partnership. Each partner has been working for years to reduce the number of people dying on the roads.
This year, 431 students from Bracknell schools and colleges will be attending performances at the Madjeski Stadium.
Last year nearly 900 people aged 16-18 were injured on roads in the Thames Valley and an average of seven young people are killed or seriously injured each week. Young drivers are much more likely to be involved in a crash on the roads, often due to inexperience and a lack of knowledge of the risks. Around 1 in 4 of those killed on the road is aged 17-24.
Tuesday 24 November
Panasonic staff will benefit from a 'Safer Winter Driving' session where they will be given advice on driving and vehicle maintenance. It is not just snow and ice that can contribute to crashes in winter. People also need to be aware of driving in rain and wind. Even in modern cars, braking distances increase in poor surface conditions.
Thursday 26 November
The Road Safety Team is visiting Whitegrove school assembly in the afternoon to raise awareness of all matters relating to road safety. Spike the 6ft hedgehog will be making a now rare visit before he goes into hibernation.
Saturday 28 November 10.30-15.00
Bracknell Forest Council is working with its partners from the Thames Valley Safer Roads Partnership to highlight the potential consequences of a crash and to raise awareness of avoiding the ever present problems of drink and drug driving.
Come to the Town Square in Bracknell where firefighters from Red Watch at Bracknell fire station will be staging a hard-hitting road traffic collision (RTC) demonstration. The police exhibition trailer will be in Charles Square in Bracknell town centre. During the event, the fire crew will use a live 'casualty' to show how they rescue people from the wreckage of their vehicles after an RTC.
The Road Safety Team is running a free draw with the prize of a £25 HMV token up for grabs.
