Party Wall Act 1996
If a building is to be erected within 6 metres (20ft) of an adjoining owner's building, or works are to be carried out to a party wall, the provisions of the Party Wall Act 1996 may apply. The Act may require the owner who is having the work done to give up to two months' notice to their neighbours before commencing.
Please note that the Local Authority Building Control Surveyor cannot get involved with disputes connected with the Party Wall Act. Independent surveyors and/or solicitors should deal with any problems that arise.
An explanatory booklet is available to download from the section on the right or from the Environment, Culture and Communities reception at Time Square in Bracknell.
