Catering for Health Award

The Catering for Health Award Scheme has been introduced to help Bracknell’s population improve their health by having access to a healthier choice of foods.

This award scheme is run jointly by Bracknell Forest Council and Berkshire East Primary Care Trust, in their commitment to reducing obesity, cardiovascular disease and generally improving the health of our community.

The award benefits businesses by offering customers a healthier eating experience.

Research indicates that a diet which includes few fruit and vegetables and too many high salt, sugar and fatty foods can increase the risk of conditions such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and obesity. The good news is that many of these conditions can be reduced by choosing a healthier lifestyle including regular exercise and a balanced diet.

In the UK, a substantial proportion of meals are eaten away from home. Research has shown that when eating out, 97% of consumers think they should have the choice to be able to eat healthily and 52% of those think it is the caterer’s responsibility to provide this choice.

If you are a caterer and are interested in receiving this award, an information leaflet can be downloaded.

For further information on the scheme, please telephone Customer services on 01344 352000 or email environmental.health@bracknell-forest.gov.uk
