Food Complaints

Many complaints about food are brought to our attention each year, with one of the most common types being about foreign objects in food.

These, however, do not always pose a health risk. This section contains examples of common food complaints, along with explanations and suggestions for the most suitable course of action. You can also find out more about 'use by' and 'best before' dates here.

Both the environmental health and safety team and the trading standards team at Bracknell Forest Borough Council can carry out investigations of food complaints, with the responsible team being determined by the type of complaint:

Trading standards

If the food is mislabelled, out of date or if it is a quality issue then trading standards will enforce the law. Please use our consumer complaint online form.

Environmental health

If food is considered a risk to health, unfit, mouldy or has a foreign object in it then it is the responsibility of the environmental health team of the district council in the area where the food was sold to investigate it.

If you have a complaint about a food premises such as a restaurant, pub, takeaway, market stall or mobile caterer, you can use our food premises complaint form to tell us.

If you are unsure who the correct enforcement agency is or which form to use, please contact us using the details on the right and we will ensure that the correct people receive your complaint.
