Health and Safety Law Enforcement Plan
The Government estimates that the total cost to society of health and safety failures could be as high as £18 billion a year. The council is responsible as part of a national effort to meet national priorities to do something about this.
To comply with the statutory requirements under the Health and Safety at Work Act, the council must ensure that national priorities and standards are delivered effectively at a local level.
The council is legally obliged to set out how it intends to achieve the national priorities in an annual plan entitled the Health and Safety Law Enforcement Plan.
The plan sets out the scope of the responsibilities of the council in relation to health and safety in private sector businesses in the Borough and its links to other council plans. It describes in particular the service aims and objectives, service delivery and the resources allocated to health and safety in the borough.
The plan is updated annually and reports on performance in relation to the outcome of risked based programmed inspections, accident reporting and investigation and customer complaints.
