Landlord accreditation scheme consultation
Local authorities across the country are implementing landlord accreditation schemes as there are considered to be many benefits to landlords.
Under these schemes potential benefits offered to landlords include:
- Grants and loans at preferential rates.
- Consultation on any proposed changes to legislation that may affect landlords.
- Availability of discounts from organisations that supply goods or services.
- Preferential rates for Energy Performance Certificates
Further information about landlord accreditation is available on the website for the Department for Communities and Local Government

The Council's role in private sector housing
The Council has a key role to play in private sector housing. In particular, we aim to:
- Provide advice and information to all residents who request it and to develop our Home Improvement Agency further to play a key part in this
- Provide information to enhance home maintenance, responsible home ownership and private investment in home improvements
- Target support to vulnerable residents who are least able to afford or carry out housing renewal works themselves, particularly the disabled, in order to assist them in making their living accommodation suitable and to achieve the Decent Home Standard
- Provide and/or facilitate the provision of financial and other assistance to works that contribute to achieving the Council's private sector housing renewal priorities
- Support areas where investment will have wider regeneration and community benefits
- Provide resources for works to homes where Council strategies have identified a need to tackle individual and neighbourhood concerns about crime and the fear of crime
- Use enforcement powers where appropriate to attain acceptable standards of repair and safety in privately rented accommodation and deal with long term empty homes and unfitness
