Employment Potential Study

In 2005 Bracknell Forest Borough Council commissioned an Employment Potential Study from property consultancy Vail Williams.

The research is an important element in the many considerations required as part of the Council's Local Development Framework (LDF) process. In particular the study will help develop and influence policies for employment land in the Borough.

There are considerable competing land use pressures in employment areas and the council has to make fine judgements between them in the light of its other research and policy priorities. Vail Williams were asked to undertake research into the future employment needs of Bracknell Forest, new working practices and future business needs. They reviewed the main employment areas in the Borough and provided comments on their role.

A key area of interest to the council is the way that companies are using their accommodation in the light of new working practices. It is important to the council to understand how business is being conducted in the Borough in order to form a view on future space requirements. These working practices include responses to global market pressures as well as technology – ranging from the outsourcing of business processes abroad, to partnering within supply chains and more cost efficient work styles through hotdesking, homeworking and mobile communications technology. Vail Williams met with major employers in Bracknell to discuss these issues and undertook a further programme of teleresearch.

The final report was received in December 2005. The report and a summary of the report can be downloaded on the right.
