Core Strategy Sustainability Appraisal and Strategic Environment Assessment

The Core Strategy Development Plan Document (DPD) sets out the long-term vision, objectives and strategy for the spatial development of Bracknell Forest.

The sustainability appraisal for the Core Strategy DPD was developed simultaneously to ensure it informed the strategy throughout production so sustainable development is fully integrated. The Core Strategy therefore provides a framework for ensuring that future development meets the needs of people living and working in an area, whilst at the same time ensuring this development is sited in such a way to protect the environment.

According to government guidance stages A, B, C and D1 of the sustainability appraisal process were completed and an appraisal was made of any significant changes arising from the Examination (Stage D2).

The Core Strategy was adopted in February 2008 and a sustainability statement was published alongside the plan’s adoption statement. This outlines the findings of the whole sustainability appraisal process and how sustainability considerations have been incorporated into the Core Strategy.
