Suitable Alternative Natural Green Space (SANGS) Checklist

The SPA Technical Background Document is based on the premise that if it can be shown that relevant developments make an appropriate contribution to the planned and timely provision of suitable alternative natural green space, amongst other measures, the planning authority will be able to conclude that the development would not have any effect on the SPA.

The SPA Technical Background Document has also calculated the required amount, and the size, location and nature, of suitable accessible natural green space (SANGS) that would be appropriate for residential development in the Borough.

The Council has also produced a criteria-based checklist in order to determine the suitability of proposed SANGS. Applicants may also wish to read Natural England’s latest guidance on SANGS quality. These documents can be downloaded from the section on the right.
