Spillages - Roads
The Council is responsible for keeping the highway clean and free from spillages. Where spillages are of a hazardous nature the local police and fire service may also be involved in the incident and road closures may be required.
Spillages on the highway can lead to road traffic accidents or, at the very least, expense to the Council.
If you have been involved in an accidental spillage or see an incident of spillage on the highway - this could include oil/gravel/sand etc on the road, dropped cargo etc, please report this to us using the online form on the right. The form takes about 5 minutes to complete online and you can monitor your progress using the progress bar at the bottom of the screen.
If you have any details of the offender please let us know - it may help us to recover the costs.
The Council is not responsible for clearing spillages on private roads or private land – it is the duty of the landowner to ensure the area is cleared.
