Crossover

A crossover is an area of lowered pavement and kerbs which is used to give access to vehicles from a road, across the pavement, and onto a driveway or parking area.

Bracknell Forest Borough Council runs a Residential Street Parking Crossover Scheme.

This applies to private properties or council tenants alike. However if the property is council owned you would have to contact your Housing Officer first.

All residents qualify as long as:

  • They can provide an off road highway parking depth of at least 5 metres with direct access to the carriageway
  • They are applying to a single width crossing to a residential parking space
  • They are applying for the first time access to an existing property (as of January 2002)
  • They use the Council's contractor for the crossover
  • They construct a hardstanding of reasonable quality, which is approved by the Council's engineer
  • They have planning consent if access is required from a classified road. For this information please contact the Street Care Section using the details on the right

Further information is available in the Residential Street Parking Crossover Scheme leaflet.

If you have read the advice leaflet and would like to apply online for a vehicle access please complete the vehicle access application form.

Once you have submitted the online form a full application form will be sent to you. The application form includes a plan showing your property, on which you can mark where you would like the access. The completed form should be accompanied by a cheque or postal order to cover the inspection fee of £70.00. Please send your application to:

Vehicle Access Application
Environment, Culture and Communities Department
Time Square
Market Street
Bracknell
Berkshire
RG12 1JD

Once we have received your completed form and fee, a site inspection will be arranged in order to take measurements and prepare a quotation for the construction of the vehicle access.

If you accept the quotation, payment can be made by cheque, by telephone, online or by cash at the council offices. A date will then be determined for the work to be carried out.
