Avian Influenza (Bird Flu)

Avian influenza (bird flu) is a disease of birds caused by influenza viruses closely related to human influenza viruses.

If you find a dead bird you should call one of the following numbers to have it removed. You should not remove the bird yourself:

For all wildfowl such as swans or geese: 08459 335577 (this is the DEFRA hotline number)

For all other birds: 01189 392 505 (during office hours – this is the local DEFRA vet)
