Pest Control

In order to protect public health, there is legislation in place that requires landowners to take measures to control rats on their land. Where landowners are found to be failing in that duty, then the Council will take action to enforce the legislation by the serving of notices and, if that fails, will prosecute offenders. The Council may also treat the infestation and recover full costs from the landowner.

A treatment service is offered by the Council for the control of rats at very competitive rates, which are also then heavily subsidised for certain groups of residents.

As well as rats, the Council also provides services to treat mice, fleas, wasps and bed bugs. The Council has a wide range of advice leaflets to assist residents and businesses in the prevention and treatment of pests

Flea Control - Preparing your home for treatment

Bracknell Forest Council's Pest Control Service uses one of the most advanced insecticides on the market today. We use a treatment called Ficam W which is not only effective but odourless too. In order for us to do an effective and complete job of eliminating your fleas, you must help us by doing the following before we arrive to treat your home:

  • Remove all toys, decorative items, cushions and other items from the floors so that all areas of the floor can be treated
  • Remove all articles from under the beds, on cupboard floors, and from under furniture as these are areas where fleas live and need to be treated thoroughly
  • Vacuum all floors and upholstered furniture to remove animal hair, organic debris, fleas, flea eggs and pupae
  • Remove bag after vacuuming and dispose of it in a waste bin or plastic refuse bag outside
  • Take pets to a vet for treatment
  • Do not allow pets back into the house until the treatment has completely dried
  • Do not vacuum for at least 7 to 10 days after the treatment. This will give Ficam time to eliminate all stages of the flea infestation

Remember, your help is essential to flea control. Although you may see a few fleas for a day or two after treatment, be patient. These fleas will be eliminated in a short time. If you continue to see fleas for seven days after treatment, contact us using the details provided on the right.
