International Walk to School Week 2008

October is International Walk to School Month, with schools around the world encouraging children to walk, cycle, skate or scoot to school.

Walking, or cycling, to school can help towards the sixty minutes of daily moderate activity that medical experts recommend for all children.

Woman and children walking to schoolIf you or your child live too far to walk all the way to school, park further away from the school and walk at least part of your journey. Better still, if there is a group of you who do this, set up a walking bus and all walk together in a group wearing hi-viz vests.

For more ideas for encouraging children to walk to school, have a look at our resources page or in the downloads section on this page.

If you have any questions regarding walking or cycling to school, please contact Phil Burke on 01344 351266.
