Adult and Family Learning

Welcome to our programme for the summer term.  

Most of our courses are suitable for complete beginners so if you would like to learn how to use a computer, make the most of your digital camera, build your confidence, improve your work skills, or even just take up a new hobby – then we have the course to help you get started on your learning journey!

Most courses take place in our Open Learning Centres in Bracknell or Sandhurst.Please note that our Brakenhale Open Learning Centre is being extended and modernised, but all our course programmes are running as normal during the building work.

PDF First Steps into Learning (295kb)

If you are new to learning or nervous about returning to learning, try one of our FREE First Steps courses. This term includes Life Coaching, Confidence through Drawing and Singing for Fun. These courses run for 4 or 5 sessions.

PDF Taster Sessions (260kb)

This is a programme of single, low cost sessions on a variety of topics including crafts, personal development, health and well-being, dressmaking and more. Come along and try something new.

Please note that the small fee charged for Taster sessions is payable at the start of the session.

PDF Next Steps in Learning (368kb)

These short courses enable you to learn a little bit more about popular subjects.  This term our Next Steps course programme includes calligraphy, several complementary therapies, flower arranging, singing and wine tasting.   

The fee for these courses is payable at the time of booking, but we offer a fee reduction for anyone on means-tested benefits – please ask when you book.  Please note that fees are not refundable unless we cancel the course. PDF Computer Courses (5559kb)

If you are new to computing our UKonline courses will help you get started.

‘First Time on a Computer’ is FREE and lasts for 10 hours over two or more sessions. This course is designed to help absolute beginners to become familiar with computer jargon, using a mouse and keyboard, the internet and email.  

Once you know the basics, you can expand your knowledge by enrolling on one of our low cost, introductory taster sessions on a wide range of computer topics including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Publisher, Microsoft Excel, digital photography and Outlook Express.  You can also learn how to use your computer to buy and sell on eBay, discover blogging or search for jobs on the Internet.

Please note that if you need glasses for reading, you will probably need them when using a computer and it is often easier to see the computer screen wearing glasses with plain lenses rather than bifocals or varifocals.

PDF Next Step Computer Learning (310kb)

Create a four-page website in the Introduction to Dreamweaver on Saturday 20th June or learn how to manipulate your photos in Next Steps with Photoshop Elements starting on Monday 8th June for 4 weeks.

PDF The Learning Bus (567kb)

Our Learning Bus is a fully equipped mobile classroom.   We use it to deliver FREE sessions for adults who would like to return to learning and / or improve their skills in English or Maths.   The programme this term includes skills checks, taster sessions and longer courses for beginners and improvers.

When you enrol on any session, please let us know if you have any special needs or require additional support to enable you to participate in the course.  If we know your requirements in advance, we will do our best to provide appropriate assistance for you.

Bracknell and Wokingham College is the main further education provider in the Borough and one of the largest and most successful in the area. The College offers an extensive part-time programme of courses in various locations and at different times of the day. They also offer full-time courses.
