Free Nursery Education
From the term after their third birthday all three and four year olds are entitled to 15 hours free nursery education for 38 weeks of the year. This continues until the child reaches compulsory school age (the term after their fifth birthday) or until the child takes up a nursery place at a maintained school.
The free entitlement must be taken over a minimum of three days. The minimum number of hours that a child can attend a setting in any one day is 2.5 hours. The free entitlement must be offered on a completely fee-free basis at the point of delivery.
A provider claiming the free entitlement must be registered with both the local authority and OfSTED and they must follow the Early Years Foundation Stage profile.
