Internet Use Policy at Libraries

Public Workstations Available

The library and Information Service provides free access to Internet Services for all registered Library Members.

  1. The Internet is a global electronic network and Bracknell Forest Borough Council Library and Information Service is not and cannot be held responsible for the accuracy, validity, legality or usefulness of any sites, content or information accessed.

  2. Bracknell Forest Borough Council Library and Information Service cannot guarantee access to the internet will always be available; nor can we guarantee access speed or the ability to access specific sites.

  3. All library members are entitled to 1 hour’s free access per open day on production of a valid membership card.  Never give your login details or password to any other person. Should you require more time or do not have your card with you; you may purchase 30 minute sessions, subject to the availability of PCs.

    Please ask staff or refer to our current charges for details.

  4. Unauthorised use of a library card to access the internet by any individual, other than the cardholder in person i.e. the person the card has been issued to, is strictly prohibited. Access is not transferable to another individual and may result in the service being withdrawn.

  5. Transmission, viewing, storing or emailing of any material in violation of laws is strictly prohibited.  Including but not limited to material that is : copyrighted, threatening, obscene, pornographic, using offensive language or protected by trade secret.

  6. Any commercial or business purpose is strictly prohibited.

  7. Downloading files from the internet is not permitted.

  8. We reserve the right to monitor or terminate user sessions where inappropriate material is accessed or this policy is contravened in any way.  We further reserve the right to withdraw the use of this service at our sole discretion.

  9. We strongly recommend that you do not use public access PCs for sending credit/debit card transactions or bank details to online suppliers or Internet banking.

  10. Children and Young People

    i. Consent of parents or legal guardians is required before any child under the age of 16 years can use the internet.

    ii. Bracknell Forest Borough Council Library and Information Service accept no responsibility for the sites or content any child or young person may access.

    iii. Parents/Guardians should be aware that whilst filtering software is used on public PCs, we cannot guarantee children will not be able to access inappropriate material.

    We advise and encourage parents/guardians to supervise their child’s use of the internet at all times.

    iv. Parents/Guardians should be aware that children may access chat rooms and it is their responsibility to ensure their child acts appropriately and safely.

    We advise they do not send or reveal any personal details or agree to meet people.

  11. We reserve the right to alter this policy or withdraw this service at any time.
