Old Bracknell

Bracknell Library holds a special collection of items on the history of the area. Other libraries have smaller collections of historical information. The Bracknell Library collection includes:

A range of books and pamphlets about Bracknell and surrounding areas

Various editions of newspapers on microfilm including:

  • Wokingham and Bracknell Times 1931 - 1958
  • Bracknell News 1959 - Date
  • Bracknell Times 1968 - Date
  • Index to newspapers available from 1959 - 1997

Photographs

Photographic collection of 2665 images of the local area taken from the beginning of this century including those inherited from the Bracknell Development Corporation in 1984 as well as more recent aerial photographs

Maps

  • Over 1000 maps of the area from the Ordnance Survey and other sources, both historic and current
  • The 1:1250 and the 1:2,500 Ordnance Survey series are indexed by street name

Census

The census returns for Bracknell and surrounding area from 1841-1891
