Library support for your Reading Group

Discuss Books in a Reading Group

Bracknell Forest libraries are keen to support and encourage local reading groups. This guide sets out what we can do for your group.

Reading group membership

We will provide the leader of your group with a reading group membership card. Books can be issued manually for an extended loan period of up to 6 weeks, if required.

The leader (or signatory for the membership) will be responsible for any books issued on the card.

Books

A list, ‘Recommended Reads for Reading Groups’ is available. Please ask for a copy from your local library, or alternatively access a copy from the downloads menu.

Reservations and Multiple Copies

  • We can place reservations for multiple copies (subject to availability) for your group. We will aim to provide multiple copies by the required date. However we cannot guarantee how many copies will be available in time.
  • We can notify you when books are ready for collection.
  • Reservations are placed at the discretion of library staff. For example, books which are currently in high demand are unlikely to be available to your group at that time.
  • To maximise the likely availability of books, you should place your reservations at least 6 weeks in advance. However, ideally we would like to receive a list of the books your group is intending to read over the next six months. This will help us make sure the books are available or we can then alert you to any problems with supply.

Loans

  • Reading group books will be issued to the reading group card, or designated group representatives card.
  • Renewals are possible only where there are no customer reservations on the books.
  • Overdue books will be subject to standard fines.
  • Please return your books as soon as possible after your meeting.

Managing your ticket

  • To keep track of the books on the reading group ticket it is suggested that you keep a list of who has each copy. Copies can be differentiated using the library barcode number (just below the date label).
  • Additionally, on request the library can provide you with a print-out of the books issued to the ticket.

Further support

If you are looking to increase your membership you might like to send us information about your reading group so we can pass on your contact details. Alternatively, you can complete a form, which is available from your local library.

If you would like more information, or have any questions, please contact the Stock Services Team at Bracknell Library (01344 423149) who will be very happy to help you.
