SACRE
The Bracknell Forest Standing Advisory Council on Religious Education (SACRE) was established in 1998 when Bracknell Forest became a unitary authority.
Membership of SACRE broadly reflects the major faith groups in the local community. Members include representatives of the Church of England, the Catholic Church, the Free Churches, and the Hindu, Jewish and Bah'ai faiths.
The key purpose of SACRE is to support the effective provision of religious education and collective worship in Bracknell Forest schools. SACRE has done this by monitoring standards of RE in schools, providing advice and guidance to support the Locally Agreed Syllabus for RE, offering guidance on the conduct of collective worship and drawing up a directory of local places of worship. SACRE has also established a Resource Centre at the Bracknell Forest Education Centre, Easthampstead Park which houses published resources for religious education and a collection of artefacts associated with the six major world faiths. Many of the artefacts are regularly on loan to schools.
SACRE holds public meetings once per term where items for discussion include presentations from teachers on religious education in their school, the latest guidance from the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) on the teaching and learning of RE and consideration of support and guidance materials for publication.
