School Governance

All school governors need to know what their legal responsibilities are and how these fit in with the responsibilities of the headteacher, the Local Authority (LA) and the Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families. This is underpinned by legislation: The Education (School Government) (England) Regulations 1999 and The Education (School Government) (Terms of Reference) (England) Regulations 2000.

The 'Useful Websites' link on the right of the page offers quick links to other organisations websites where there is a variety of information of relevance to school governors. The DCSF and Governornet websites contains legal documentation and guidance including the latest version of 'A Guide to the Law for School Governors'.
