Budget Guidance

In July 2004, the Department for Education and Skills (DfES) (now known as the Department for Children Schools and Families (DCSF)) published its Five Year Strategy for Children and Learners. This included proposals for significant changes to funding schools, to be effective from April 2006.

In July 2005 the Government announced a range of decisions that had now been taken. A detailed explanation of these decisions and reasons behind unexpected changes from their initial consultation was published. This was distributed to all schools in September, with commentary added from the Council.

Final decisions on school and LA funding have now been taken by the Government, and following consultation with schools and the Schools Forum, local decisions have been taken where there is discretion to do so.
