S52 Budget Statements
Local Authorities (LAs) are required under section 52 of the School Standards and Framework Act 1998 to prepare and publish a budget statement, for the prescribed period, in respect of planned spend on education services.
Section 52 gives the Secretary of State power to make regulations prescribing the form of these budget statements; their content, timing and manner of their publication.
LAs are required to produce a budget statement for 2008/09. It is intended to provide a clear picture of an LAs planned spending in respect of:
- How much of the whole education budget the LA intends to spend on items outside the Schools Budget
- How much the LA is proposing to retain centrally within the Schools Budget for school service
- How the Funding Formula for Schools is working to produce budget shares for each school

The school budget summary table provides a statement of the main sources of funding available to the Council for their schools and of the funding delivered to schools. Current tables are as follows:
