Free School Meals

Are you missing out on £370 a year?

Is your child eligible to be tucking into a free school meal?

If your child attends a Bracknell Forest school you can now apply directly to the Local Authority and do not have to provide paper proof of benefit.*

You can do this by:

  • Completing the online application form
  • Calling Customer Service on 01344 352000
  • Downloading an application form which can be returned directly to School Admissions or taken into your child’s current school
  • Contacting your schools Family Support Advisor

*sometimes we may need to ask you to provide paper proof of benefit

From 6 April 2011 the 'threshold' figure which forms part of the 'Tax Credit' free school meal eligibility category will remain at £16,190.

Children whose parents receive the following support payments are entitled to receive free school meals:

  • Income Support (IS)
  • Income Based Job Seeker’s Allowance (IBJSA)
  • An income related employment and support allowance (this was introduced on 27 October 2008)
  • Support under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • Child Tax Credit but not entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual income, as assessed by Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs that does not exceed £16,190. Please note anyone receiving Working Tax Credit, regardless of Income, will not qualify
  • The Guarantee element of State Pension Credit.

Children who receive IS or IBJSA in their own right are also entitled to receive free school meals.
