Legal aid
Legal aid is a scheme that helps people to pay the costs of getting legal advice. For more information regarding what this is, eligibility and how to apply please visit the gov.uk website.
Non-legal aid funding
Some people may be entitled to have their legal costs covered under an existing insurance policy, membership of a trade union or professional body. Please contact the relevant insurance provider, trade union or professional body for more information.
Free Services
Some lawyers and advisers across England and Wales provide free or cheaper legal advice to people who are not eligible for legal aid and cannot afford legal fees e.g. the Citizens Advice Bureau and Law Centres.
Please note that the council does not provide actual legal advice to members of the public. This section provides information and guidance regarding various legal matters and where to go for further information.
