Definitive Map and Statement

Warfield Church - part of the rural accessible route seriesWhat is a Definitive Map?

The Definitive Map is a legal record of the public’s rights to use footpaths, bridleways, restricted byways and byways open to all traffic.

The Definitive Statement

The definitive map is accompanied by a statement which describes the route of each right of way in greater detail, some widths and any restrictions on use.

Walking with the Rights of Way rangerHow up-to-date is the Definitive Map?

The First Consolidated Definitive Map of Public Rights of Way in Bracknell Forest was published on 1 January 2000. Since the map’s publication, various legal orders have been made to modify the Map, reflecting changes such as path diversions, creations and closures. The Council is working towards publishing an up to date consolidated Definitive Map in 2010 for Bracknell Forest which will incorporate all of these changes. Meanwhile the Council keeps updated working copies of the Map.

How can I find out which rights of way are on the definitive map?

The definitive map and statement are available for inspection at Time Square and Bracknell library free of charge. Alternatively you can visit our map webpage where you can download a map showing the rights of way in Bracknell Forest for each parish.

Queries on the line or status of routes and the review of the Definitive Map and Statement should be addressed to the Parks & Countryside Service at Bracknell Forest Council. Contact details are listed to the right of this page.
