Running

Running is one of the most popular and accessible sports in the world. Participation ranges from elite athletes through to recreational runners and those who just want to jog around the block for some exercise. The continual rise and fall of bodyweight expends a tremendous amount of energy and absorbing shock during take-off and landing. Running can assist people in losing weight and staying in shape as well as improved cardiovascular health, increased muscle mass, increased bone density, and an improved emotional state. Running can also have psychological benefits, as many participants in the sport report feeling an elated, euphoric state, often referred to as a “runner’s high”.

RunningCross Country running is a sport in which runners complete a course over open or rough terrain. The courses used at these events may include grass, mud, woodlands, and water. It is a popular participatory sport, and usually takes place during the autumn and winter when soft conditions underfoot prevail.

Events

To have a goal (eg run 6km) or perhaps raise money for your favourite charity there are many Road Running Events that take place and cater for all standards of runner/fun-runner/jogger.

Clubs

Running clubs (and athletic clubs) have a diversity of people involved in road running. They are able to provide appropriate advice, coaching, support and competition for a range of runners. Many clubs specialise and focus on road running.
