Adult Social Care

The Council's Adult Social Care and Health department has responsibility for the following areas:

  • Carers
  • HIV/AIDS
  • Learning disabilities
  • Mental health
  • Older people
  • Physical disabilities and illnesses
  • Substance misuse

Our services are designed to meet people's individual needs in a way which is sensitive to age, gender, race, religion and culture.

We can arrange or provide services for adults and carers. If you, or the person you are contacting the Council about, are under 18 years old, please see Children and Families.

Assessing your needs

Before we can arrange services for you, you will need to have an assessment. An assessment involves you (the user) and a trained member of our staff. Please see Needs Assessment by Social Services for more information.

Assessments of need are carried out under the legislation of the NHS and Community Care Act 1991 and the Carers Recognition and Services Act (1995 and 2000).

Please see the links on the left for more information about our social care services.
