Support for Adults with HIV
If you or someone you care for is living with HIV/AIDS which affects your everyday living you may be able to get help from Social Services.
To find out if Social Services can help they will talk with you about what you can do and what help you think you need. Social Services will work with you to agree what help you may need. This is called an assessment. Not everyone is entitled to an assessment or help from Social Services. This depends on your needs and circumstances.
If you would like to request information, advice or help, please contact us using the details on the right.
Depending on your needs and circumstances, Social Services may be able to arrange or provide:
- Counselling, support and information on welfare benefits and voluntary groups
- Advice on and referral to specialist HIV and Aids organisations
- Personal, practical and social care and support in your home (home care)
- Meals during the week for those people unable to provide for themselves by any other means
- Aids, equipment and house adaptations to help with daily living
- Day services or Resource Centres to develop everyday living skills and meet other people
- Short-term care (respite) can help you to experience life away from home and gives carers a break. Sometimes respite can be arranged in your own home
- Residential or Nursing Home Care provides a long-term home and the opportunity to develop independent living skills if you are no longer able to cope on your own
- housing advice about what housing options are available to you
- Advice and assistance in obtaining transport, disabled parking badges (called 'blue badges') and travel passes
