Homelessness - Advice and Support
There are many reasons why people become or risk becoming homeless:
- They may lose their job, get into arrears with their mortgage or rent and their home may be repossessed
- They may be unable to continue living with friends or family, because of overcrowding, a relationship breakdown or violence
- They may have left hospital, prison or care, and have nowhere to go
- Their landlord may have given them notice to leave
Whatever the reason, it is very worrying if you think you will become homeless. Some people try to ignore what is happening, and do not make plans or try to find alternative accommodation until there is very little time left. It is then difficult for them to take in advice, or to take action on their own behalf.
The Housing Act 1996 (as amended by the Homelessness Act 2002) requires local authorities like Bracknell Forest Council to provide housing advice and information about homelessness and the prevention of homelessness to people in their area.
