Early Intervention
Bracknell Forest Children’s fund have set up an Early intervention scheme
This scheme works with 8 to 13 year olds that have been identified as being at risk of having problems during the transition from Primary to Secondary school, of becoming socially excluded and at risk of offending further down the line. They are identified by coming to the attention of the professionals that work in Bracknell. These could be Teachers, Police Officers, Social Services Professionals, Doctors etc.
After assessing the young person we and other agencies then work with the young person and the family to design a plan that will address both the cause and the effect of the young persons behaviour
The plan will be tailored to the young persons needs and the families circumstances. The plan is designed by the family, the young person and the Early Intervention worker and the plan is then facilitated by both the Early intervention Co-ordinator and the family themselves.
Who can refer?
Anyone who is working in any capacity with the young person. This may be a teacher, a nurse, a police officer etc. Anyone who feels that they can see signs of risk factors that may lead to offending behaviour. Parents and young people can self refer.
What are the risk factors?
We believe in the ability and experience of professionals. We will consider any referral that is based upon a child’s behaviour moving towards an offending pattern. However these are the sort of issues that would be appropriate.
- Bullying - both victim and perpetrator
- Disruptive behaviour - both at home and at school
- School exclusion
- Low level anti social behaviour
- Prolonged or frequent absence from home or school
- Any change in behaviour either dramatic or connected to trauma
- Living in an offending rich environment
