Support For You As a Short Break Carer

Our job is to provide help and guidance to becoming a foster carer and support you once you have been approved.

Advice and Information

As a short-break carer, you will be allocated a supervising social worker with whom you will have regular contact to discuss any concerns and develop any ideas and suggestions.

The family placement team can also be contacted by telephone throughout the day and out-of-hours.

You will also become part of a carer's network, where carers socialise and share ideas and experiences.

Financial Assistance

You will receive an allowance which will contribute to the costs of looking after a child. Please see our section on Financial Support for more information.

Legal Assistance

In addition to allowances, all carers receive free membership of The Fostering Network - a national charity which champions carers and professionals and provides legal support.

Local Discounts

Carers and their immediate dependent family members are given free or discounted access to most leisure facilities provided by Bracknell Forest Borough Council. You will first need to apply for an e+ card at your local Bracknell Forest library or leisure centre.

Training

We want you to enjoy being a short break carer, to be confident in what you do and to be proud that you are doing it to the best of your ability. We therefore provide a range of training and development opportunities.
