How does Bracknell Forest support Parents?
As a local authority we are very aware of the importance of fathers, mothers and other carers. We are also aware that there are times when parents need a bit of extra support. Sometimes, that support can be found from family or friends, but sometimes the local authority can provide support by ensuring there is help available through schools, health workers, voluntary organisations and other services provided locally. Services available in Bracknell Forest are divided into 4 levels:
- Universal services are available for everyone. You do not have to meet any criteria except be a mother, father or carer of a child or young person.
- Targeted services are available to those who may need a bit of extra support. For example, if you are a young parent, if you have a disabled child or if there are any other circumstances that may make you feel that you need something more than the services available to everyone. At this level you will still be able to just phone up or come along to a group or arrange to have someone come and visit you. You won’t usually have to meet any special criteria except that you feel you need some extra help.
- Specialist services are those where there is a specific criteria that you will need to meet in order to use the services. This may be when you are really struggling with the demands of being a parent and can be for a variety of reasons. At this level you will need some specialist advice and support.
- Crisis services are just what they say – your family is in crisis and, even when you may not think you need support, others may say that you have to have some.
