Larchwood - Short Break Care Unit
Larchwood is a short break unit, providing respite care for children/young people who have a learning disability. The children and young people who access Larchwood are aged between 5 -18 years of age.
The unit is situated in a quiet residential area close to the town centre, local resources and facilities. The accommodation is all on the ground floor level and has appropriate access to all areas.
Facilities in the unit include adapted bath, fixed and mobile hoisting equipment, sensory room, children's touch screen computer and a large garden which includes a trampoline and specialist play equipment.
Larchwood is registered with Ofsted as an eight bed unit. The aim of the unit is to offer planned short breaks for children and young people, ensuring individual needs are being met and working closely with their families and other professionals involved. The unit is a child-focused environment providing opportunity for children to meet new people, make friends, develop new skills and experience a range of activities within the local community.

Referrals are received via Duty and Assessment Team or Disabled Children’s Team within Children’s Social Care.
