Advocacy for People With Learning Disabilities
Advocacy is a way of helping people to speak up for themselves.

Everybody has the same rights:
- To make choices about our lives
- To get help from Adult Social Care or Health Services if we need it
- To be told about our rights
- To have opportunities for leisure, education, training and employment whether we have a disability or not
- To make a complaint when something goes wrong.

An advocate can:
- Listen to you
- Help you to plan any action you may need or wish to take
- Write letters and make telephone calls with you, or for you
- Make sure your views are heard by attending meetings/reviews with you
- Get information for you, or put you in touch with someone who can
- Spend time with you preparing for meetings
- Find out other ways you can get support
- Find out what your rights are
- Liaise with relevant agencies
