Advocacy for People With Learning Disabilities
Advocacy is a way of helping people to speak up for themselves.

Everybody has the same rights:
- To make choices about our lives.
- To get help from Social Services or Health Services if we need it.
- To be told about our rights.
- To have opportunities for leisure, education, training and employment whether we have a disability or not.
- To make a complaint when something goes wrong.

An advocate can:
- Listen to you.
- Help you to plan any action you may need or wish to take.
- Write letters and make telephone calls with you, or for you.
- Make sure your views are heard by attending meetings/reviews with you.
- Get information for you, or put you in touch with someone who can.
- Spend time with you preparing for meetings.
- Find out other ways you can get support.
- Find out what your rights are.
- Liaise with relevant agencies.
