Commissioning Strategy for Adult Mental Health 2008 to 2013

At the Council, we have recently published our commissioning strategy for adult mental health. This strategy sets out the direction for mental health services and support for adults from 2008-2013.

A commissioning strategy looks at individual needs and the needs of the community as a whole. We can then look at how we can support people, for example, by providing services to meet those needs.

In developing the adult mental health commissioning strategy, we involved a wide range of people who use mental health services, carers, voluntary organisations and mental health workers. In the first stage, people told us what they thought about mental health services and where the gaps were. We then consulted widely on these findings to make sure that we had heard all the important messages.

We also looked at the population of Bracknell Forest and how this may change over the next 5 years. We considered how many people may experience mental health problems and thought about how we could reduce some of the risk factors for poor mental health. How current mental health services are used was also analysed, and the money available for mental health was considered.

By gathering all this information, we were able to assess the mental health needs of people in Bracknell Forest and plan for the future.
