Heathlands Residential Home and Day Care Centre

Heathlands is a residential home that aims to provide a warm, friendly and secure environment for elderly people.
We have 36 permanent beds and a purpose-built day centre that caters for 12 mentally infirm clients. The day centre is open 7 days a week and provides a number of activities and services. We also provide night care support on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
Heathlands is very popular and has a waiting list for people wishing to use the service. Referrals will usually come from care managers or through the Community Mental Health Team.
Frequently Asked Question
1. Can I make myself at home?
When you become a permanent resident you can redecorate your room to suit your personal taste, bring in furniture (space permitting) and even install your own telephone. You may bring your own television and other personal electrical equipment but this must be PAT tested (Portable Appliance Tested) to ensure it is safe. You can choose when you get up and go to bed, entertain your visitors whenever and for as long as you like in your room or communal areas and a staff member will be happy to make them a cup of tea on request.
2. Will I be able to continue smoking?
There is no smoking allowed within the building but a designated smoking area is provided outside where residents and their visitors may smoke. This is positioned in a garden area between the residential home and our day centre.
3. Can I go away on holiday with my family?
Your family and friends are welcome to take you away for holidays but it is helpful to give us warning, so that we can ensure you have enough medication in stock to last the duration of your holiday.
4. How much will my accommodation cost?
When you apply for a placement your care manager will help you complete a personal financial statement. The information you give will be treated confidentially and allow an assessment to be made, to determine how much you can afford to pay.
5. Can my family do my laundry?
We have a large laundry where we can wash, dry and iron your clothes and bed linen but it is fine for your family to deal with your laundry, if you prefer.
6. Can I have my meals served in my room?
We have three communal dining areas where meals are served and many of our clients enjoy social interaction during mealtimes. However, some clients prefer to have some or all of their meals served in their room. We respect the wishes of each individual client and encourage personal choice.
7. Can I come to look around before I make any decision?
We encourage prospective clients to come and have a look around the premises. There is no need to make an appointment as you will always be welcomed. If at all possible we like prospective clients to spend a day with us prior to making any decisions, so they can make a more informed choice. This means they can sample meals and get to know some of the clients and staff.
8. What are the visiting times?
There are no restrictions. All we ask is that you sign the visitor book when you arrive and leave.
