Services Available at Heathlands

We have a very caring and understanding group of staff that are available 24 hours a day to help our clients enjoy their stay at Heathlands.
They will help out with various tasks, but will encourage clients to maintain their own level of independence and to make the most of their own abilities.
A number of services are available at Heathlands:
- Baths
We have a Parker bath or hoist chair in each bathroom. Clients can have a bath whenever they wish, and staff will be able to assist them if required.
- Chiropodist
A chiropodist visits Heathlands on a regular basis. Charge is £8.50 per session.
- Church Service
Ministers from the nearby Baptist, Anglican and Brethren churches call to hold a service once a month in the central lounge.
- Dentist
Arrangements can be made for a dentist to call at the home, or we can arrange for clients to see their own dentist if possible.
- Doctor
If clients wish (and if their doctor is willing) they can keep their current G.P. who will visit them as necessary. If they do not wish to keep their current doctor, Heathlands will arrange for a doctor from Birch Hill Medical Centre to look after them.
- Emergency call system
Clients will be shown how to use our emergency call system. There is a call point in each of the bedrooms, bathrooms, toilets and lounges.
- Hairdresser
The Hairdresser (Debbie) visits us every Monday and Wednesday and charges are as follows:
- Shampoo and set: £6.00
- Cut/Shampoo and set: £11.00
- Perm: £21.00
- Wet cut: £4.50
- Blow dry: £6.50
- Colour all inclusive: £21.00
- Cut and blow dry: £11.50
- Key worker
All staff are here to help clients, but they will be allocated a specific member of staff who will get to know them so that we can cater specifically for their needs.
- Laundry
We have a laundress who will attend to washing (unless clients wish to make other arrangements).
- Meals
We serve breakfast, lunch and tea in our dining room. There is a choice of food for each meal time, and menus are displayed throughout the unit. Our chef will visit each client in the morning to ask what options they would like to choose for the day. We can cater for requests or dietary requirements.
If a client is not happy with the timing of the meals, we will try to make alternative arrangements if possible. Tea, coffee and other refreshments are available throughout the day.
Meal times are as follows:
- Breakfast is flexible
- Lunch is served at 1.00pm
- Tea served between 5pm and 5.30pm
- Medication
If clients are able to look after their own medication, we will encourage them to carry on doing so. In other circumstances, the staff will look after their medication and make sure they receive it at the right times.
- Mobile Library
The Mobile Library calls on a regular basis and leaves a large selection of books.
- Transport
We have our own ambulance and an 11 seater minibus for picking up clients, taking them to appointments and so on.
