Neighbourhood Action Groups

Originally arising out of the government’s Neighbourhood Policing initiative, Neighbourhood Action Groups (NAGs) are problem-solving groups consisting of members of the local community brought together to plan and action the main concerns identified by the local community.

The main tasks of Neighbourhood Action Groups are to:

  • help to put together a cohesive plan of action aimed at improving the quality of life, local services, facilities and community safety and ultimately reduce crime and disorder and improve the environment.
  • assist in problem solving and decision making in the neighbourhood regarding partnership activity through local consultation.
  • review neighbourhood priorities throughout the year, in part by holding an open public forum once a year to consult the neighbourhood.

There are thirteen NAGs in Bracknell Forest - all constituted as independent community groups - which meet three times a year, and hold an annual Forum – an open public meeting – to feedback to their neighbourhood the successes of the year, and to consult with residents about future priorities.

Each NAG elects a Chairman who serves for a year. Regular meetings of NAG Chairmen take place on average once per quarter and information from these is cascaded down to the Action Group. Notes from the Chairmen’s meetings are also taken to the Neighbourhood Engagement Management Group and to the meetings of the Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership.

If you feel you want to take part and become involved please contact the Community Engagement and Equality team.
