  1. Speeding
  2. Parking
  3. Traffic Calming
  4. Litter, Dog Mess and Broken Glass
  5. New/Improved Footpaths

The Neighbourhood Forum had revealed that the main area of concern was the issue of parking around schools both in terms of residents finding themselves unable to enter or exit their homes or walk on the pavements as cars park on the pavements and those on the school run finding it difficult to find appropriate parking.

Activities

School Run Parking

In the recent consultation many residents’ concerns focused on traffic congestion in the village particularly during the morning when school run traffic can bring the village to a complete standstill and in recognition of the fact that the congestion was caused by a number of factors the Binfield NAG decided to approach the problem through a variety of methods including identifying why parents drive their children to school and why they park where they do, identifying and publicising alternative parking areas, police patrolling the area and warning people about obstructive parking, working with the school to encourage more parents to walk the children to school and approaching local developers to see if they might be able to help ease the problem.

Tilehurst Lane Speed Limit Reduction

At Binfield’s neighbourhood forum in 2006 residents identified the speed of vehicles travelling down Tilehurst Lane to be a particular problem.  Working with local residents the Binfield NAG regularly monitored the speed of traffic in Tilehurst Lane. This evidence was then used to prove to the Borough Council and the Police that there was a speeding problem in the area. Following pressure from the Binfield NAG the Council investigated a range of options that might have reduced the problem and in late 2007 the Borough Council agreed to formally start the process of reducing the speed limit on Tilehurst Lane from 40mph to 30mph.
