Activities
Youth Summer Activity Scheme
The long summer holidays are often peak times for reports of youth anti-social behaviour and to help combat this Police Community support Officer Ivana Houska-Mitchell is organising a programme of events over the summer holidays that will give young people in Crowthorne something constructive to spend their time and energy on.
The programme of events includes camping, barbeques, orienteering, five a side football, mountain bike riding, music workshops, bowling, raft building at Horseshoe lake, mountain boarding, film nights and many more activities.
The scheme is being supported by a range of organisations in the village including the Oakwood Centre, churches, Wellington College, Edgbarrow School, Crowthorne Parish Council, Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service, the Rotary Club and Wokingham and Bracknell Forest Borough Councils.
Film Club
Many young people in Crowthorne felt that there was a limited selection of things for them to do if they didn’t want to travel outside the village in the evenings and so the local Police Community Support Officer decided to arrange a film night at the Baptist Church. Local business donated the film, refreshments and raffle prizes. As a result of its success there are now two film clubs running regularly with the children choosing the films that they want to see (An X-Box is available for those older children who don’t want to watch the film). One takes place at the Baptist Church and is for local children in years 7 to 9, the second takes place at the Methodist Church and is for children in years 5 and 6. Attendance at each night averages at around twenty children.
The film nights also provide the police with an opportunity to get to know local children and find out about the things that concern them.
