The main aim of the Take Pride campaign is to give people an opportunity to do something positive for their local community by encouraging them to take part in activities designed to improve the Borough.
Why should we do the Council’s work for them?
Although there are plans in place to deal with things like anti-social behaviour and litter on a borough wide scale we want people to feel that they can play an active part in helping to shape their community and by working together we can make the Borough safer, cleaner and a more pleasant place to live.
I only want to volunteer for activities in the area I live; is this possible?
Yes, although if you only select a single area then there may be long periods of time between activities.
I work so I can’t volunteer on a regular basis can I still take part in Take Pride events?
Yes. Some events will be organised to take place in the evenings and at weekends and many will only last an hour or two. And you can take part in as many or as few as you like, for example some community associations run litter picks every other month and you can go just once or to every single one. Alternatively why not get your company to organise a Take Pride event which everyone can get involved in.
Do I have to register as a volunteer before I can take part in a Take Pride event?
Not always. If an event like a litter pick or water course clearance has been organised then you can just turn up and take part. But Speedwatch and Crime Awareness Patrols can only be carried out by registered volunteers; this is because you will need to be insured and trained. Volunteers for Crime Awareness Patrols will also need to undergo a police background check.
Do I need to be really fit to get involved?
Obviously some activities will require a certain degree of fitness for example Crime Awareness Patrols could require a lot of walking but other activities can be done whatever your fitness level. If you are in any doubt about your ability to take part please contact the events organiser to discuss your concerns.
I only come to Bracknell for work but would like to get involved in Take Pride can I still take part? Can the company I work for take part?
The Take Pride campaign is about getting everyone in the Borough involved in their local area and anyone connected to Bracknell in any way is welcome to take part as an individual or as part of a larger group, and companies are welcome to either take part in pre-organised activities or organise their own events just contact the Take Pride team on 01344 352995 to discuss your ideas.
I like the idea of volunteering but want to do something different. How can I find out about other ways to get involved in my community?
Take Pride is about getting people involved in their community and how you do this is up to you. For example if you want to do something like improve the planting round a community centre we can provide advice on how to do this. Alternatively if you want to do something more long term then what about becoming a school governor or police volunteer either as a police special constable or volunteering to staff a police information point.
