Affordable housing in Bracknell Forest is housing with sale prices or rent levels which are substantially lower than the current market price or rent.

It's accessible to local people in priority housing need who can't afford adequate housing on the open market.

Affordable housing is provided by housing associations that are also known as Registered Providers (RP). We work in partnership with RPs to deliver new affordable housing to meet local housing needs and encourage sustainable mixed communities.

The Council has formally agreed to work with Preferred RP Partners for the delivery of affordable housing and these are:

• Bracknell Forest Homes and Thames Valley Housing Association
• Radian Housing Group
• Sovereign Housing Association and Ability Housing Association
• One Housing Group.

In addition to the Preferred RP Partners we also recognise and work with the following affordable housing providers as local partners for the delivery of affordable housing:

• Affinity Sutton
• Home Group
• Guinness Trust
• London & Quadrant
• Southern Housing Group
• Look Ahead Housing & Care

Types of affordable housing

Affordable rented housing
This is normally provided by an RP and the properties are advertised on BFC Mychoice, which is the Council's choice based lettings system. Applicants are nominated from the Council's housing register for each property.

Intermediate housing
Some of these are low cost home ownership products. However, other products include intermediate rent which is when a property is at a rent level above affordable rent but below market rent. This type of accommodation is normally provided by an RP. There is a range of Homebuy products that enable applicants to have more choice and achieve home ownership. These can be found on the Homebuy website managed by Catalyst Housing Group.

Current affordable housing developments

There are a number of new residential developments under construction, which will result in the completion of new affordable homes by March 2012.
